You really think that was his long con? Spend countless hours developing a WoW UI, leave the red-handed code in plain sight for two years, and then use that same code for. The code has been there for two years, in no way obfuscated, and never once used maliciously (in fact, numerous people have stated he used it either in fun or in debugging). There's absolutely nothing in the code that was there, Elv's comments nor anything that's come to light to even kinda suggest it was malicious. The amount of tinfoil-hatting with regards to ElvUI is astounding. Downloading an addon does not mean you get to take control of my character whenever you decide its time to "debug". *ĮlvUI developer was on a power trip and has zero respect for people's personal space. *The backdoor that was included can only be viewed as a harmful feature for the end-user. ElvUI developer was on a power trip and has zero respect for people's personal space. I am sure there are addons people use today that have backdoors we don't know about, but thats not the point. Having the feature already in the addon, a malicious person just has to come add his character name to the already existing list. Many people use redistrributed "addon packs", where the pack creator could easily modify any of the addons with backdoors. This also caused the addon to have a very easy single point to change for your own uses. This can be used for griefing or personal gain (think mailing money) The supposed safeguards such as logging the event to the chat window can be overridden with a special message. What everyone is ignoring is that whether or not the developer ever actually abused it, he could have done it without anyone's knowledge. There should be no method of receiving and executing arbitrary code. It doesnt really matter what it is intended for, or if the author abused it or not. And its very easy to make keybinds, not only to action bars, but to the spells themselves. Then I found an extra action bar enabler for bars 7-10, I then switched to mostly mouseover macros once I got those up.īut to point out a nice feature for elv is the ability to filter and show buffs/debuffs with prioritization on the raid frames. If you use a multi button mouse like a naga, clique is very useful. On top of elv I use clique for some of the mouseovers, but mainly to not have one cluttered macro with and tags. It present some nice extra help features, like the new inspect/ character armory frames which shows a detailed display of the gems/durability/ilvl/etc. If you happen to go with elvui, I highly suggest also getting the Shadow and Light (add-on to an add-on). I don't care if there was a little backdoor coding, he had to know you to even utilize that. I too have fell in love with elvui since early MoP.
